The “Doodles” family
Ever heard of Labradoodles, Aussiedoodles, Goldendoodles, or Schnoodles? These dogs are part of the “Doodles” family, a crossing between the Standard Poodle and various other dogs. This is my first post about Bordoodles (AKA Borderdoodles or Border Doodles). They’re a hybrid cross between a Border Collie and a Standard Poodle, creating the portmanteau 🙂
Wait, portmanteau?
Portmanteaus are words that are blended together from two or more words when pronunciated. For example: “motel” (a combination of motor and hotel), or “brunch” (breakfast and lunch). Likewise, “Bordoodle” is derived from “Border Collie” and “Poodle”. Pretty neat!
So, why the mix?
This cross produces some amazing attributes, including intelligence. Rover.com has an article on The Top Ten Smartest Dog Breeds that I highly recommend. Can you guess which breeds are in first and second place? SPOILER ALERT! The Border Collie and Poodle respectively. Really? Yup, I was surprised myself. Because the Bordoodle is a mix between these two dogs, it can generally be assumed to be the smartest of the “Doodle” breeds (I say “generally” because you always hear about a few incredibly intelligent dogs from the other breeds).
Apart from intelligence, Bordoodles are also quite athletic and agile, are easy to train, have low to non-shedding, and are loyal and affectionate. The best part? Bordoodles are ideal for families and kids. These playful dogs are sure to enlighten the hearts of anyone they come across 🙂
